Sweden import garbage from Norway

Sweden - Norway

Recycling in Sweden has been so successful that Sweden has to import waste from its European neighbours.

Only four percent of household garbage in Sweden ends up in municipal landfills; the rest is recycled or is sent to waste-to-energy power plants, where it is burned as fuel.

Waste-to-energy (WtE)  is the process of creating energy in the form of electricity or heat from the incineration of waste source or produce a combustible fuel commodity like  methane, methanol, ethanol or synthetic fuels. WtE is a form of energy recovery.

In fact, the waste-to-energy plants do just what their name says. The “waste-powered” plants provide 20 percent of Sweden’s district heating.
