Turkey and Malaysia, seek to broaden already strong trade ties.
Representatives from Turkish and Malaysian businesses held a meeting with the purpose of exploring new relationships and strengthening trade ties between the two countries.
Trade between the two countries has surged in the past five years, increasing by 86 percent since 2009. Trade figures hit $1.1 billion in 2013 and totaled $805 million for the first 10 months of last year.
MATRADE Istanbul director said his organization is committed to reaching a target of $5 billion by 2018. Malaysia was chosen to chair the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year.
ASEAN consists of ten Southeast Asian countries with a cumulative gross domestic product (GDP) of $2.4 trillion as of 2013. A leadership position within such a powerhouse will help Malaysia reach its trade targets with Turkey.
