Leaders from some of the world's biggest economies stressed the need to resist protectionist pressures and lift restrictions on trade to unleash more growth, at an annual summit on Monday.
Ministers from 12 of the 21 nations attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, which conclude on Tuesday, prepared to brief their leaders on progress to establish a trade pact that would cover almost 40% of the world economy. The pact, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, backed by the U.S. and joined by Japan, is one of several overlapping and at times competing trade arrangements under discussion at APEC.
