Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London announced a £700,000 programme to boost business exports among small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Supporting SMEs to export is in line with the London Enterprise Panel’s recommendations, which highlight the importance of increasing overseas trade in London. It is hoped the £700,000 will be matched with a bid to the European Regional Development Fund. The money will be used to create a bespoke programme of support for around 1,000 small and medium sized businesses to help them expand into overseas markets over a two-year period. The Deputy Mayor for Business and Enterprise, Kit Malthouse, leads a UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) trade mission to the Turkish capital, Istanbul, with the aim of winning new contracts overseas for London businesses. The delegation will include 17 London companies of all sizes and sectors, from architecture and design to security and construction.
